Agnikarma (Thermal Microcautery) is an ancient medical technique which has been well-described in Ayurveda, the Indian System of Medicine.

An Indian surgeon, Maharshi Sushruta, known as the father of modern surgery, documented the effectiveness of the Agnikarma (Thermal Microcautery) procedure for various musculoskeletal disorders in the ancient Ayurveda literature of Sushruta Samhita about 2500 years ago.

In today’s modern world, the most frequent cause of disability is the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders such as osteoarthritis, sciatica, spondylosis, frozen shoulder etc. Long-term muscular and joint discomfort can lead to psychological distress and often negatively affect the quality of life. Modern medical drugs offer symptomatic relief, but chronic use of modern drugs is associated with serious side effects.

The Agnikarma (Thermal Microcautery) technique on the other hand, is a highly effective treatment for musculoskeletal diseases providing quick relief without side effects or complications. It is a minimally invasive cost-effective procedure that can reduce the need for surgical interventions.

Agnikarma procedure involves thermal micro-cauterization using a specialized Agnikarma Shalaka. First, depending on the patient’s constitution, the diagnosis and severity of the disease, specific points are identified on the affected body area. Then, the heated tip of the of the Agnikarma Shalaka is applied precisely to the affected area followed by application of Cool cream for instant cooling relief. . Agnikarma relieves pain caused by Vata at the site of Sandhi, Sira and Snayu. Agnikarma can be used in combination with Sneha and Bandhana.Agnikarma is useful for relieving pain associated with bone, joint and ligament, etc.

·         Sebaceous cyst

A sebaceous cyst, also known as an epidermal inclusion cyst, is a fluid-filled lump that forms under the skin, typically filled with a keratin substance. They are usually benign and do not cause symptoms unless they become infected or inflamed. A lipoma is a lump of fatty tissue that grows just under the skin. Lipomas move easily when you touch them and feel rubbery, not hard. Most lipomas aren’t painful and don't cause health problems so they rarely need treatment. Materials used for Agnikarma are Pippali, Aja Shakrit, Godanta, Shara, Shalaka, Varti and Suryakanta, etc. Meals like Loha, Swarna, Tamra and Kamsya also used for the procedural purpose of Agnikarma.

Probable mode of action: Agnikarma acts on Vata Kapha Dosha and alleviates causative factor of pain. Pain reduces significantly with minimal recurrence rates. Contraindication for Agnikarma:
